5/9/2010 Neighborhood groups carry the Mikoshi from the Shitaya Jinja through the streets of Ueno, Tokyo, during a Mikoshi Matsuri. The Mikoshi is a portable shrine, which houses the local Shrine's (Jinja) deity, or Kami. During Matsuri (festival), the Mikoshi is carried throughout the Shrine's local area by followers.
